Applications for The Curran Fellowships Now Open

Applications for our annual Curran Fellowships are now open! We’re currently accepting applications for projects beginning in 2020 through December 1, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. (US Pacific Time, or UTC/GMT -7). The Curran Fellowships are research and travel awards intended to support the use of primary sources to explore any aspect of the British periodical press of the “long nineteenth century” (ca. 1780-1914) in any of its manifold forms: magazines, newspapers, and serial publications from across the British Empire. 2019 Linda H. Peterson Fellowships announced

In 2019 RSVP has awarded two Linda H. Peterson Fellowships, to Alexis Easley (University of St. Thomas) for New Periodical Print Media and the Rise of the Popular Woman Poet, 1830-50 and to Lorraine Janzen Kooistra (Ryerson University) for The Dial Digital Edition on Y90s 2.0.  Abstracts of their projects are available. Winner of the Colby Book Prize 2017 Announced

The Research Society for Victorian Periodicals is pleased to announce the winners of this year’s Robert and Vineta Colby Scholarly Book Prize is The Routledge Handbook to Nineteenth-Century British Periodicals and Newspapers co-edited by Andrew King, Alexis Easley and John Morton. The Committee, chaired by Katherine Ledbetter, describes the book as “a standard reference work” that offers “cutting-edge, comprehensive scholarship by experts in each area”. The volume was seen as “wide-ranging and diverse” in ways that stepped beyond Great Britain to consider British newspapers and periodicals in relation to North American, European, Australian and Asian publications. Linda H. Peterson Fellowship: Deadline February 1, 2017

In 2017 the Research Society for Victorian Periodicals will award one Linda H. Peterson Fellowship to provide a researcher with the most valuable scholarly resource—time. The Peterson Fellowship is intended to support, first and foremost, primary research on the nineteenth-century newspaper and periodical press. Therefore, eligible projects must engage primary sources, whether those sources appear in print, manuscript, or digital facsimile. RSVP Field Development Grant Accepting Proposals Now

In 2017 the Research Society for Victorian Periodicals will award one RSVP Field Development Grant to a single researcher or a team of researchers pursuing a project that would facilitate research by other scholars. Two smaller awards may be given if the right projects present themselves. The amount of the award will be up to $27,500. Please see the Field Development Grant page of our website for more details. The deadline for applications is February 1, 2017.
