Suzannet Research Library at the Charles Dickens Museum

Members of the RSVP community interested in conducting research into Charles Dickens’s Household Words or All the Year Round can now visit the Suzannet Research Library at the Charles Dickens Museum. The library contains primary and secondary research material ranging from publications to scrapbooks, relating to the life and times of Charles Dickens as well and is open to researchers by appointment 10.30-12.30pm and 1.30-3.30pm under the supervision of curator, Louisa Price who can be contacted at Louisa.price@dickensmuseum.com or on the main museum line 020 7405 2127. Booking is essential.

Looking Ahead to Special Issues

Victorian Periodicals Review is pleased to announce two forthcoming special issues! Issue 47.4 (Winter 2014) will feature articles on “Tradition and the New” with guest editors Natalie Houston and Margret Beetham. Issue 48.2 (Summer 2015) will be entitled “Digital Pedagogies: Building Learning Communities for Studying Victorian Periodicals” with guest editor Clare Horrocks. Summer issue of VPR out now!

The Summer issue of Victorian Periodicals Review is now out.  Issue 47.2 features papers by Fergus Dunne, Kirsite Blair, Michael D. Lewis, Rebecca N. Mitchell, Marina Cano-Lopez, Melissa Score, and Troy Gregory.  It also has a memorial by Richard Fulton of one RSVP’s founders, William Scheuerle.  The issue can be accessed online here. Digital Dickens: A Dickens Day Workshop

Places are still available for this free, one-day workshop taking place 7 July 2014. The workshop will provide an opportunity to reflect upon and develop a number of digital Dickens projects, including a sequence of online serial reading projects and Dickens Journals Online (DJO). RSVP 2014: Places, Spaces, and the Victorian Periodical Press

  The 2014 Research Society for Victorian Periodicals conference will be held at the University of Delaware’s Wilmington campus on September 12 and 13. The conference theme is “Places, Spaces and the Victorian Periodical Press.” In addition to a wide range of panels, the program will include the Michael Wolff lecture, to be given this year by Lorraine Janzen Kooistra of Ryerson University.
